Australian qualification system is very simple to understand. It is divided into 3 major sectors:
Schools:
All public schools are funded by State Govt. and education is free for all permanent residents and citizens. For International students charges applicable. It starts from Primary & secondary Education (high school) followed by Senior School which is equivalent to Year 12. |
|
Vocational Education:
After High School (Yr 10) students have option to enter into TAFE or Private Colleges for vocational course and can enroll into Certificate III followed by Certificate IV – Diploma – Advance Diploma.
India being into AL4, students from India have to enroll for minimum of Cert IV that is not less than 1 year in duration. If enrolling for Cert IV which is less than 1 year in duration it has to be articulated with Diploma. Australian vocational courses are very well structured. In some courses one course is embedded with other. It allows students to change their interest and line at any stage and if a student finds it difficult to pass a course or looses his interest. He can get credits for the part qualification award for the subjects he has passed.
Higher Education:
It covers bachelor degree followed by graduate certificate & graduate diploma than masters degrees. Please have a look at the below mentioned flow chart.
Department of Immigration & Citizenship (DIAC) defined Australian Courses Visa Subclasses

Below is subjects wise chart:
Same as in case of Student joining Diploma/Advanced Diploma they can take EXIT at any stage and if they join bachelor degree they will be given exemptions on the basis of subjects they have passed in their Diploma.
If Adv Diploma (2 years) is getting exemption of 8 Subjects the Certificate III will get 4 subjects exemptions in Bachelor Degree.
